ONE of City’s marquee summer signings has switched back to the club where he won the Midland Football League (MFL).

Midfielder Tom Turton has re-joined Alvechurch, jumping back up two levels having helped the Lye Meadow outfit to back-to-back promotions from the MFL Premier Division and Northern Premier League Division One South in 2017 and 2018.

In that second season he was named in the division's team of the season and won the Manager's Player of the Season award in 2018-19 when Church went within a whisker of a third straight promotion from Southern League Premier Division Central, losing the play-off final to King's Lynn Town.

Turton followed manager Ian Long to Stourbridge in the summer of 2019 but left in February and retook the reins at Church within 48 hours only for Covid-19 to curtail the rest of the season.

Ex-West Bromwich Albion scholar Turton had done the rounds at City’s level and above prior to his success at Alvechurch.
