Worcestershire CCC spinner, Josh Baker, is heading to the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup with England as a travelling reserve.

Baker will accompany the official squad and Under-19s Head Coach, Richard Dawson, to the West Indies next month.

He will be on stand-by should England suffer any injury setbacks and undergo some quality warm-weather training ahead of the new campaign at New Road.

Baker trained with the Under-19s at the National Performance Centre at Loughborough after the end of the 2021 domestic season.

The former Malvern College pupil participated in two of the five ODIs versus Sri Lanka Under-19s in Colombo earlier this month.

In the opening match of the series, Baker picked up 2-46 in 10 overs and bowled two overs for 12 runs in the third game.

Worcestershire Cricket Steering Group Chairman, Paul Pridgeon, said: “I’m sure Josh will be disappointed not to have been included in the full squad and we are disappointed for him.

“But it is still an opportunity for him to impress the coaches during training and be ready if he has to be called upon at what is a prestigious tournament.

“He will be able to call upon the experience he gained and potential he showed playing first-team cricket for Worcestershire during the second half of last season if needed.”

Worcestershire spinner, Oliver Davidson, is part of the Scotland squad in the tournament.
