BEWDLEY continued their resurgence up the West Midlands League Premier Division by beating Ledbury Town 3-1 on Saturday.

Victory propelled Town into eighth place in the league and strengthened their chances of securing a place in the top five.

Joint manager Craig Payton believes that the team is hitting form at the right time after a season disrupted by injuries.

Bewdley, who played Bromyard at home in the League Cup last night, have three games in hand over many of the sides above them and are in a good position to surge up the table.

"We could have scored a lot more goals but I was happy with the result," said Payton.

"We've won five games in a row and it has given us the belief that we can finish in the top five. Our season had been disrupted by injuries but I think we have finally turned a corner and have almost everybody back now.

"We missed Lewis Pountney and I am sure he could have had a hat-trick, but the lads kept plugging away and getting into good positions but couldn't take their chances when they fell for them."

Despite missing top scorer Pountney because of injury, Bewdley had too much firepower for relegation-battling Ledbury.

Chris Hough was Town's match winner as his hat-trick put Ledbury to the sword.

Two headers handed Town a 2-0 lead by half-time and after Ledbury grabbed a goal back, Hough secured maximum points when he slotted home a penalty after being brought down in the box by an opposition defender.

Pountney is expected to have recovered in time for Saturday's home league clash against Goodrich Town (3pm kick-off).
