KIDDERMINSTER driving ace Nathan Freke is searching for a new team to drive for after leaving American Indy Pro Series outfit Michael Crawford Motorsports.

The 25-year-old decided to call it a day with the team because they were unable to provide him with a competitive car.

Freke is now in the same situation as last year , where a deal with Gelles Racing in America fell through and left him looking for a new team to drive for.

Father Clive Freke said: "Nathan made the bold decision to end his relationship with the team.

"He felt that even when he was able to drive the car flat out it was two or three miles off the pace and that in the short term the team weren't able to improve on that.

"It means we are back to square one again and are looking for a new team, although that will not be easy because the season is in full swing."

Freke agreed to race for the team in March in the biggest move of his career, to compete in one of America's most popular competitions.

He had been hoping to take them to a higher level but has been plagued by technical and aerodynamic problems in the first three races.

The driver had bounced back from 20th place finishes in the first two rounds by securing eighth in round three at the St Petersburgh street race.

He had been hoping to build on his first top ten finish in round four at the Kansas Speedway on Sunday, but he decided to end his relationship with them after testing at Indianapolis did not go to plan.

A new engineer had been brought in to iron out the car's problems, but even at race pace, Freke could not match his rivals and finished 24th out of 27th.

He has also spent a large proportion of the £100,000 war chest he managed to raise last year to help pay for a place in a strong team this season.

However, he has not given up on racing in American again.

"It was better to pull out now because I still have some money if another team approaches me," said Nathan.

"I would like to think that now I have some experience under my belt that a team would consider me."
