After a positive pre-season, Stourport mens' 1st XI returned to Midlands Premiership action with a trip to Northampton Saints and a 7-1 victory.

Stourport began the scoring early when an exchange of passes in midfield lead to Joe Schubert's converting with his trusty backhand.

Northampton countered and pulled back an equaliser but Stourport rallied and after a fast-paced fifteen-minute spell, the match settled down with Stourport beginning to dominate the match.

A brace from Simon Claris, the first a high flick from a corner breakdown and then the second from a trademark corner, gave Stourport a 3-1 advantage at the break.

Stourport dominated from the start of the second half with Claris scoring from a corner for his third and his first-ever hat trick. It was Claris again who added Stourport's fifth from open play before he (Claris) made it 6-1 with a special from a corner after captain Cavendish spun at the right to provide the ball for Claris to slot the ball into the goal low to the keepers left.

Claris hadn't finished his goal rush though, completing his double hat trick with his sixth and Stourport's seventh, but despite scoring a double hat trick with a broken thumb, Stourport's player of the match went to his brother Nathan Claris.

With a number of their squad called up to the mens' 1st XI, the mens' 2nd's struggled against in their West Midland Premier hosts Cannock.

The visitors' 0-3 down at the break were kept in the match by the saves of keeper Matt Gill.

Despite captain Will Terry finding the bottom right corner after hitting the ball from the top of the 'D', following a corner, Cannock finished the match with a 1-4 victory.

The men's 5th XI began their Midlands South West 3 match with a 2-4 reverse to visitors Droitwich 2nd's.

As with all the matches involving Droitwich sides this weekend, there was a beautifully observed silence for the Droitwich president.

The teams were level at 1-1 at the break, David Henderson giving Stourport a three-minute lead only for Droitwich to pull level.

Despite John Kane scoring in the fortieth minute, it wasn't enough for as Droitwich added a further three goals in the second half.

The match did see the debuts of five Stourport players and included six under-16s in the playing squad of twelve. Stourport's player of the match was Paul Hutton who provided the assists for the two goals.

The ladies' 2nd XI began their Midlands Premier league campaign with three points as they beat their visitors 3-1.

The first match of the season always brings worries that they'll be problems with communication within teams with fresh faces in. There were no such worries with Stourport ladies' 2nd's though, as the team connected, communicated, and worked for each other on and off the pitch.

Stourport set a high pace from the being and was rewarded with the home side's first goal. Stourport continued to control the match and added a second after collapsing the Boots press creating a counter attack that had Jasmine Ellis convert Stourport's second. Stourport creating the better chances made it 3-0 when a strong tackle and dribble from Ellis resulted in a third.

Boots pulled a goal back before the halftime break when they converted a corner with a strong hit into the bottom right corner. Boots attacked with aggression and speed in the second half forcing a number of short corners and incursions into the 'D', but Stourport's back four and keeper Sophie Wood stood strong in the face of the incoming attacks, blocking Boots' attacks.

Despite some good breaks from the forward line Ladies 3rd XI were unable to score when they were defeated 0-5 by their hosts Worcester 1st XI.

Stourport were 0-4 down at the break but had a better second half when they only conceded one further goal.

Although they lost 0-5 this was a good start to the league season for this new side.

Stourport ladies' 4th XI dominated their match with attack after attack on the Droitwich goal, but despite creating the chances only managed to win by a single goal.

With some good communication and teamwork, the group of new Stourport players showed perseverance and resilience to keep pressure on the Droitwich goal before Caitlyn Clarke found the breakthrough, scoring in the second half to give the home side a 1-0 victory.

Droitwich rarely threatened but when they did push forward there was always the experienced Stourport defence, of Teresa Moss and Sara Jennings curtailing their efforts to ensure a clean sheet for Stourport.

Stourport's player of the match was Georgi Raven for her composure and creating many of Stourport's playing opportunities but the side's Under 18 players also showed some outstanding skills and growing confidence.
