STOURPORT Hockey Club’s ladies 2nd XI maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 6-1 victory over Birmingham University 5th XI.

Stourport began Saturday’s Midlands Division 2 West match with 10 players but still took the lead after 10 minutes.

The hosts doubled their advantage five minutes later following attacking play, before two further goals gave them a 4-0 lead at half-time.

Stourport continued to control the match after the break, with their passing and movement creating further opportunities and bagging a fifth goal.

A sixth followed in the 57th minute before Birmingham pulled one back five minutes later.

The victory gave Stourport their third win in as many matches, leaving them unbeaten and top of the table.

The ladies Over-35s also enjoyed a successful weekend, recording a 4-0 victory away to Shrewsbury in the Over-35s Cup.

Fran Moss opened the scoring to give Stourport a 1-0 half-time lead before adding her second from a short corner after the break.

Kerry Walker made it 3-0 following a passing move involving Laura Price, Georgie Rees and Lora Symonds.

Symonds then scored Stourport’s fourth to complete the victory, while the Shrewsbury goalkeeper made a number of saves to prevent further goals.

Elsewhere, Stourport ladies 1st XI suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Cambridge City in the Midlands Women’s Conference.

Sophie Thompson put Stourport ahead after just four minutes, but Cambridge quickly equalised before taking a 2-1 lead into half-time.

The hosts added a third goal in the second half to secure the points.

Stourport’s men’s 2nd XI endured a difficult trip to North Stafford 2nd XI in Midlands Open Men’s Division 5 West.

The hosts led 3-0 at half-time before adding another six goals after the break to complete a 9-0 victory.
