TRIATHLETE and Amazing Feet member Rachel Ward was back in action with a host of events during July.

Ward completed the Hereford triathlon at the start of the month.

Due to problems with the pool the event became a duathlon with a short run, followed by a cycle ride, then a further run, which she finished in 59 minutes and 23 seconds, becoming the fourth lady and first women’s veteran as well as securing 39th overall.

The Stourport-based doctor recorded a new personal best at the Upton-on-Severn standard triathlon, setting a time of 2-26-52.

Ward finished once again as first lady in the over-40s section and was the sixth women overall.

Craig Lewis (26th in 76-30), Peter Trow (52nd in 93-18) and Sarah Lewis (60th and fifth lady, 1-57-31) all completed the five mile Callow fell race, which boasts a energy sapping 2,700 feet of ascent.

Ian Hall (43-18), Russell Wilding (43-24) and Kevin Draper (43-33), Racheal Moss, Jean Maffei and Julie Draper all ran in the third race of the Worcestershire Midweek League, called the Droitwich 10 kilometre.

Richard Baker took part in the Crown Classic at Telford, further improving his 2008 10km best time to 49-17 to come 71st out of 125 finishers.

The club’s half marathon, sponsored by Sweatshop, had a record field of 288 finishers on Sunday.

Matthew Sims from Oxford University took the 2008 title in a time of 1-22-40, followed home by Ian Mansell of Dudley-Kingswinford RC in 1-23-54 and Simon Link of Stourbridge RC in 1-25-38.

The ladies title was won by Birchfield Harriers’ Rachel Cook in 1-37-04 (28th overall), with Michelle Clarke of Telford Harriers second (1-38-40, 39th overall) and Lesley Yorke third in 1-40-00 (46th overall), while Amazing Feet’s Craig Bone came home 16th in 1-33-06 and fourth in the MV45 section.

Christine Sedman-Smith, who runs for Kidderminster and Stourport AC, was the first lady home in the lady veterans over-60 category.

Stuart Grainger (01-40-46) and Martin Willmott (1-47-11) also set fast times.
