KIDDERMINSTER Harriers ladies got their season off to a great start in the West Midlands League Premier Division by defeating Stratford Town 3-0 on Sunday.

They took the lead after only 20 seconds when Toni Dipaolo was on hand to finish off a great move, slotting the ball past the advancing keeper from just inside the box.

Harriers had to wait until the 61st minute before scoring their second, when captain Emma Bowdler drove the ball into the bottom left hand corner from 26 yards out.

Debbie Harris netted Harriers’ third goal on her debut, when she brought the ball down on the edge of the box then turned and fired home from 16 yards.

Harriers had many chances to score more goals but a number of great saves from Stratford’s keeper, Anna Jones, kept the score down to 3-0.

n Ferndale also got off to a winning start in the Division One South by getting the better of Studley 3-1.

Debutant Kizzy Wassell opened the scoring after just five minutes with a clinical finish, but Studley levelled the scores with a well-struck goal three minutes later.

Ferndale continued to put pressure on the Studley defence and were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute, with Lucy McLoughlin stepping up to give Ferndale a 2-1 lead at half-time.

In an even second half, Mel Zaffino came on as substitute to make her debut and produced a fine display.

After 75 minutes Ferndale wrapped up the the game and earned three points, when McLoughlin beat the offside trap to make it 3-1.

Ferndale travel to Birmingham Athletic on Sunday for their second game of the season.

n Ferndale girls under-17s drew 3-3 with Kewford Eagles, with goals for Mel Zaffino and Kirsten Oliver.
