SOPHIE Johnson bagged a late winner as Ferndale Ladies got the better of Birmingham Athletic 1-0 in the West Mi dlands League Division One South.

Birmingham missed a great chance to take the lead in the 20th minute, when striker fired over with the goal at his mercy.

Johnson slotted home the winning goal in the 71st minute to give Ferndale all three points.

Keeper Lydia Broom pulled off a fantastic save in the 85th minute.

Ferndale ended the game with 10 players after aninjury, while Holly Penwarden was named player of the match. Ferndale take on Dudley United at home in the league on Sunday.

Second half goals for Kidderminster Harriers’ Emma Bowdler and Emma Askins secured a 2-0 win over Bourne United in Stoke in the West Midlands League Premier Division. Harriers take on Bradwell Belles at home on Sunday.

Ferndale under-13s were beaten 7-1 by Worcester City, despite the efforts of player of the match Rachel Birch and keeper Harriot Simpson. The under-12s team lost 3-1 to Netherton, with Molly Maguire scoring a penalty.
