CHESS: Jim Friar collected most of the silverware at Kidderminster Chess Club’s annual general meeting and presentation evening.
President Derek Digger handed over the club championship, lightning, quick play and handicap awards to Friar following a very successful 2007-08 season.
John Wrench received the Shuttle shield, having defeated Dave Close in the final, and Gerald Link won the Graham Bunn Memorial Trophy.
George Billinge received special congratulations for winning the President’s Cup at the age of 87 and Maurice Bissell lifted the Bennett Cup, an individual competition in the Worcester and District League.
The following officers were elected: President - Digger; Secretary - Bissell; Treasurer - Close; Tournament Controller - Tim Yates.
