STOURPORT men bagged their first win of the season in the Conference West by thrashing Firebrands 6-1 at home on Saturday.

Victory was enough to propel the men's team to seventh in the table and send their opponents from Bristol into the bottom two.

Stourport took the lead with a great attack down the left, which was finished coolly by Luke Edwards in the 13th minute.

Firebrands bounced back straight away, when Andy Edwards scored from a rebound at a short corner.

A fine solo goal from new signing Andrew Langlands put Stourport ahead at half-time.

The second half saw the hosts dominate and keep possession, with Chris Hill's first National League goal making it 3-1.

Stourport soon made it four when short corner specialist Imran Yousaf fired home to put the game beyond the visitors.

The home team continued to push hard for more goals and squandered a number of chances, until veteran Phillip Lashford made it 5-1 after smashing into the top corner.

Defender Andy Cavendish finished off a solid performance from Stourport with his first ever league goal.

Sophie Wood ensured they were 1-0 up at half-time, before a brace by Jodi Vincent made sure of victory. Stourport’s player of the match was Georgi Burns.

But the first team were knocked out of the EHA Cup after losing 3-2 to Deeside Ramblers on Sunday.

A nicely struck free hit by Kerry Maughan found Hannah Goss on the penalty spot, who deflected the ball past the oncoming keeper to open the lead for Stourport.

The home side replied with two goals but Suzanne Symonds' strike ensured extra-time.

However, Deeside pounced on an error to bag the winner late on.

The third team lost 3-0 at home to Cresconians, while the fourths got the better of Redditch seconds 5-0, with Holly Lashford and Teri Baron amongst the scorers.
