WYRE Forest duo Paul Prince and Joshua Papworth were in superb form to secure victories in the latest round of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League at Baggeridge Country Park on Sunday.

Prince produced an impressive display to come from behind to win the seniors race, while in the youth section Papworth dominated.

In a thrilling seniors race Prince and clubmates Tom Payton and Phil Blacker set a fast pace in the early stages.

Prince then rode down and overtook Wheelspin Cycles rider Scott Rose, who had at one point taken a commanding lead.

A victorious but exhausted Prince crossed the line for his best cyclo-cross performance to date with a slender 10 metre advantage over Rose.

A late charge saw Payton take third place on the line, while Phil Blacker finished strongly in fourth place, with Pete Yates in seventh and Mark Leyland in eighth. Bill Moore made a rare appearance and finished in 10th.

Development squad rider Papworth was in a class of his own and despite a one minute handicap, sliced through the field.

By the end of the first lap he was in fifth place and a big push saw him overtake nearest challenger Luke Grivell-Mellor to secure victory.

James Plant made light work of a tough course to finish in 19th place overall and eighth in the under-14s category.

Ian Wright continued his fine run of form in the veteran and juniors race to finish second overall and first in the veterans.

Joe Rowe came fourth overall and won the over-55s category, while Mike Hopkins finished in 38th spot, followed by Mike Haddon (67th) and Martin Tinsley (72nd).

Jasmine Adams faced her toughest test so far this season in the lady’s event against former National Champion Isla Rowntree, but finished second behind the Stourbridge CC rider.

Marcus Hamer came 21st in the under-12s event, while Edward Moore, William and James Pedersen, Larisa Smith and Emille Alexander all put in superb efforts for the district in the under-10s race.
