WYRE Forest swimmer Fran O’Connor sent out a message that she is in fine form ahead of the British Long Course Championship, after a series of impressive performances at the Danish Open at the weekend.

The 18-year-old, who has Cerebral Palsy, competed against some of the top disabled swimmers in Northern Europe and returned with an impressive array of medals and records in the S7 section She lowered her own British record in the 200 metre freestyle by 10 seconds, winning the gold medal in a time of two minutes and 50.83 seconds.

Swimming in only her third competitive 400m freestyle race, she repeated the feat by winning gold and improving her own British record by eight seconds in a time of 5-55.70.

In the 50m and 100m freestyle events she was up against the world record holder.

In the 50m, O’Connor won the silver medal and qualified for the multi-disability final, finishing runner-up.

She then won silver in the 100m and came third in the multi-disability final.

The in-form swimmer will be one of a quartet from Wyre Forest Swimming Club aiming to impress at the British Long Course Championships in Sheffield, which starts on Saturday.

O’Connor will swim in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle events.

Scott Allin, 15,will compete in the men’s open and 200m backstroke.

Double Paralympic bronze medalist Claire Cashmore, 20, who will be representing City of Leeds, competes in the 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and the 200m individual medley in the S9 disability category.

Amy Smith, 21, swimming for Loughborough University, will compete in the women’s open 100m and 200m freestyle events.
