KIDDERMINSTER martial arts master James Winsper is aiming to enhance his British title credentials with two fights this summer.

The 26-year-old is targeting a full-contact karate clash against defending WSKA champion John Gwilt in September this year.

He hopes to fight at the Glades Arena in front of a home crowd on Saturday, June 27 in a evening programme organised by Winspers’ School of Black Belts.

He will then be tackling Dave Gowan in a kickboxing bout in Bristol on Saturday, July 18.

Brother Matt Winsper believes that victories in those fights will strengthen his bargaining power when it comes to securing a shot at a national title.

“Every fight James has now is important because if he loses then his hopes of winning a title lose some credibility, so every one is a title fight,” he said.

“We are still hoping to have found an opponent for June, but he’s got Dave Gowan lined-up in July, which should be a good one for him.”

Meanwhile, two more members of Winspers’ martial arts school go for glory at the Glades in the club’s evening.

Kidderminster resident Mike Clarke, 24, will be hoping to beat David Hyde and secure the vacant middleweight title in a WSKA full-contact karate bout.

Instructor Luke Swingler vies for a national title in the light middleweight section.

So far the martial arts club have sold 500 tickets but with no limit on capacity at the venue, there are still some available.

Anyone interested in booking a ticket, which costs £15, can call Matt Winsper on 01562 865195.
