COOKLEY CC had to settle for a losing draw in the Worcestershire League Division Three after their clash with Lye was disrupted by the rain at the Lea Lane.

The hosts were inserted to bat and made 246-8 from their 50 overs, with Ben Southall (85) the mainstay of the innings, as Steve Hawkes (48) offered good support.

The rain clouds were already hovering as Lye went out to bat but 30.3 overs of bowling were squeezed in and with the visitors making 159-3, Cookley were condemned to a losing draw.

The seconds grabbed a winning draw against Romsley and Hunnington.

Cookley were dismissed for 227 one ball shy of their 50 over allocation, with Stu Nicholls hitting 47. Some tight bowling from the visitors ensured Romsley could only make 87-3 from 30.3 overs.

On Sunday, the firsts lost to Coseley in the Border Sunday League Division Two.

Coseley were inserted to bat and made an impressive 272- 6 from their 40 overs, as Russell Rhodes and Dan Soley picked up two wickets apiece.

Cookley made a strong start to the run-chase but were pegged back by some tight bowling and despite an unbeaten 63 from Rhodes, they closed on 150-8.

The seconds lost to Coseley by 80 runs. After their opponents made 178-9, Cookley were bowled out for 98.
