FORMER British Speedway Champion Peter Collins MBE is guest of honour at Bewdley Motorcycle Club’s latest grasstrack meeting on Sunday.

Collins, who scooped the title in 1976 and 1979, will be presenting prizes at the event.

It also marks the 35th anniversary of his first win at the Bewdley Bonanza Grasstrack competition, which he went onto win in 1976 and 77.

President Geoff Brett said: “We are very proud to have Peter at our meeting once again, he thrilled the spectators with his racing and now enjoys meeting his fans.”

Two local riders are also on the verge of clinching titles at the meeting.

Tom Perry could win the Bewdley championship in the premier 500cc solo class. The 16-year-old Bewdley member currently stands fourth in the championship but leader Phil Ashcroft, has been sidelined along with second place Darren Pugh due to injury.

Perry, who finished fifth in this year’s British Masters, is also the leader in the 350cc class.

Kidderminster rider James Childe also looks set for top honours in the 250cc class.

Childe has twice finished third in the British Championship and is currently in second place before the final round.

The meeting takes place at Pigeon House Farm, Compton Road, Kinver.
