IMPRESSIVE goalkeeping from Tom Harper helped Bewdley Town FC get back on track in the West Midlands League Premier Division with a 3-0 win over Darlaston on Saturday.

The 21-year-old shot-stopper produced several key saves when Town were just one-goal ahead.

In the end, Bewdley swept to a deserved victory and erased the memories of the previous two league matches, in which they had conceded seven goals.

Joint manager Craig Payton was glad to see his keeper back to his best after his sending off against Wolverhampton Casuals last week.

He said: "Tom [Harper] had a good chat with Darren [Steadman] and was back to his best.

"There's no doubting his ability it's just his temperament that he needs to work on.

"But if he continues to work with Darren, then he's got a very good chance of playing at a higher level.

"He was back to his best against Darlaston and made some very good saves."

Grant Joshua fired Town ahead in the first half and Harper's diligence in goal kept Darlaston at bay early in the second half.

Joshua doubled Bewdley's lead from the penalty spot after substitute Lewis Pountney had been pulled back in the box.

Russell Godfrey completed the scoring with a fine finish after a surging drive forward.

"We had Mike Carter back in the defence and it made a big difference." commented Payton.

"After two letting in seven goals in the last two matches, it was very important that we kept a clean sheet.

"We are confident that we can score goals against anyone, so if we can keep out the opposition we always fancy our chances of winning."

Steve Holt is suspended for Saturday's league trip to Bloxwich.

Payton believes his players will have to stand up and be counted in one of the division's most testing grounds.

He said: "Bloxwich is the toughest ground to go to in the league, they create an intimidating atmosphere and we need the players to me men and not boys for this match."

Town then entertain Tividale in the league next Wednesday (7.45pm kick-off).
