TSUNAMI Karate Club star Sophie Powell was named the most impressive performer at the Shukokai Karate Federation Kimura Cup Championships in Stourbridge.

The teenager was presented with the prestigious award by Shihan Eddie Daniels, an eighth dan KSI chief instructor at the Crystal Leisure Centre.

Tsunami had representatives in seven finals, with Emily Powell winning silver in the ladies black belt kata, bronze in kumite and silver in the senior team kata along with Sophie and Natasha Baker.

It was double gold success for Iain Sinnett in both senior grade kata and kumite, who also celebrated passing his first dan black belt grading.

Natasha Baker fought well to take gold in the girls 14 to 15-year-old kumite and Sophie Powell took silver in the ladies kumite fighting against the current European champion.

Sensei Dave Powell progressed to the veterans kumite to take the silver medal.
