KIDDERMINSTER kickboxer Drew Neal is in excellent form as he goes into the WAKO World Championships this month.

The 29-year-old goes into the event in Italy in the form of his life after a series of impressive performances at the Scandanavian open.

The tournament is one of the most prestigous in Europe, with all of the continent’s top fighters attending.

But Neal swept all before him in four different weight categories, winning the under-84 and 89 kilogram events and also tasting success in the team category and grand championship.

Such was his success, that he was also named the tournament’s best fighter.

Buoyed by his success in Norway, Neal is now aiming to win the world title again in Liagnano at the end of November.

He is ranked second in the world behind Guiseppe DeMarco, who defeated him in the European Championship final last year.

“I have trained really hard and feel in the shape of my life,” commente Neal.

“Guiseppe is the favourite and will be very tough to beat on his home turf in Italy.”

n Neal raised money for his trip to Italy with a sponsored event at his Lighthouse Kickboxing School in Kidderminster on Saturday.

The martial artist performed 50 rounds, including sparring, bag work, exercises and a host of other activities.
