Harriers will step up their search for a new manager this week as they try to whittle down the list of applicants for the Aggborough hot-seat.

Chairman Barry Norgrove is set to sit down with his board on Tuesday evening and work out a short-list for the vacant manager's post.

The club have received over 50 applications for the job after Mark Yates and Neil Howarth left for Cheltenham Town last week.

Chester City boss Jim Harvey has been linked heavily with the job, while Steve Burr, Tim Flowers and Jeff Kenna are thought to have also applied for it.

However, the chairman has said management experience in the Football Conference and in League Two is a requirement.

Harriers look set to announce the new boss next week and hinted that caretaker John Finnigan would be in charge for Saturday's home FA Trophy clash against Lewes (3pm kick-off).

"We've got board meeting tomorrow where we will make a shortlist of between four and six and go from there," commented the chairman.

"We've had over 50 applicants and some are assistant managers from higher divisions.

"Obviously we only have a certain budget so that might put some people off but I am confident that we can find the right manager.

"I think that experience in League Two or in the Blue Square Premier is a vital requirement.

"I have to talk to John [Finnigan], he's got another game to impress on Saturday and we'll have to see if he's still interested in the job."

Harriers are also eager to try and extend the loan deals of defender Daniel Andrew (Peterborough) and striker Damian Spencer (Kettering).

Spencer is training at Harriers after the club struggled to get hold of Kettering chairman Imran Ladak.

Norgrove commented: "We'd like to keep Damian for at least another month and have tried to phone Kettering. So far we've not had a reply."
