JOINT Bewdley Town boss Brian Lacey admits that a few choice words at half-time gave his side a much needed lift in Tuesday night’s 3-2 win at Wellington in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

The Ribbesford Meadow side had been trailing 2-0 at the break but after Lacey’s stern chat with his troops goals for Steve Holt, Alex Taffe and a spectacular effort by new signing Jason Little ensured three points for Town.

Victory marks a fine return to form in the league, where they have taken 10 points from the last 12.

“There were a few home truths said to the players at half-time,” commented Lacey.

“We’ve hidden behind excuses like injuries and the weather this season but in truth the players haven’t worked for each other this season.

“They’ve put the effort in but haven’t played like a team.

“We’ve picked up in recent weeks and it’s important that we play with pride until the end of the season and finish in the top half of the table, because we’re a better team than our position suggests.

“It was a great goal for Jason and the culmination of his performance.”

Town had also came from behind to beat Shawbury 3-1 on Saturday, with the in-form Holt, Russell Godfrey and Alex Hazeldine on target.

The victory was all the more impressive because Bewdley only had 14 players to call on and had drafted Keith Elliott into midfield.

The two wins also ensured they bounced back from disappointment in the League Cup last week, when they were beaten 6-1 at Ledbury.

Town will be without injured trio Lewis Pountney (hamstring), Craig Forbes and Grant Joshua (foot) for Saturday’s game at home to Lye (3pm kick-off). They then go to Ludlow in the league on Wednesday night.
