CYCLING: Despite an accident forcing the VTTA 10m mile time trial to be relocated twice, postponed by 15 minutes and shortened to 8.5 miles, none of this deterred the Wyre Forest riders who made the journey to Princethorpe in Warwickshire.

First home for the club from an entry of 123 riders and enjoying his first time trial of the season was Phil Blacker in 11th place with a time of 19 minutes and 12 seconds.

He was quickly followed by Andy Convery, known more for his racing over longer distances, but finding the short course to his liking, in 20th place with a time of 19-32.

Third finisher for the club was Stuart McKie in 39th place with a time of 20-35 which gave him second place in his age group.

Finally, Mick Gray finished 95th overall and fourth in his age group with a time of 25-46.

On the previous weekend, Blacker, showing his multi discipline skills, rode in the British Cycling MTB National Points Series in Clipstone Forest near Mansfield.

Although having just returned from a hard week’s training in Majorca, he worked his way through the field from a ninth row start to the leading group Despite being sent off course, he maintained contact with the leaders and finished in eighth place in a time of 1-31-04. The race was won by Mart Hutt in a time of 1-27-49.
