BEWDLEY Town are hoping to have a double boost for tonight’s Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final against in-form Alvechurch.

Influential attackers Chris Hough and Lewis Pountney could have overcame injury and illness to be available for the game at Ribbesford Meadow (7.45pm kick-off).

Poutney has missed the last few weeks with a groin injury, while Hough has been laid low a bout of bronchitis.

Their availability would be a big lift for Town, who face a tough task against an Alvechurch side flying high in sixth place in the Midland Football Alliance.

Bewdley go into the game on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in the West Midlands Premier Division, although their league clashes against Ledbury and Wednesfield were called off because of waterlogged pitches last week.

With Dudley Sports, who saw off Alvechurch’s fellow Midlands Alliance side Studley, awaiting in the final, joint manager Craig Payton is hoping his team can make it an all West Midlands League final.

He said: “If you look at Alvechurch’s position in the league and their recent results you can seen they’re a very good side.

“We beat them in this competition last year but they knocked us out of the FA Cup and are a very good side.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game but we have to take some inspiration from Dudley Sport's win over Studley.

“We’re at home as well and I think that gives us an advantage because the playing surface at Alvechurch isn't the best and wouldn’t suit us at all.

“Our form in the league has also been excellent and that gives us some confidence that we can make the final.”

Town, who entertain Goodrich in the league on Saturday (3pm kick-off), may also have a big say on who wins the title this season.

In a hectic April, they welcome three title-chasing sides, starting with Bloxwich next Thursday (7.45pm kick-off), to the Meadow.

AFC Wulfrunians pay a visit to Town on Saturday, April 17, before Ellesmere end the season at Bewdley on Thursday, April 29.

“We still hope to make the top ten but we’ve got a lot of the top sides at home this month,” commented Payton.

“We’ve got Bloxwich, AFC Wulfrunians and Ellesmere, so we could have a big say on who wins the league this year.”
