MOTORSPORT: Torton race ace Alex Ashby celebrated his 21st birthday in style by securing his first win in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup (DSMPC) at Snetterton.
Driving Thorney Motorsport’s Astra VXR, car number 21, Ashby qualified third on Sunday.
He used his karting and Funcup experience to good effect and passed team mate Stuart Clarke on the third lap. He then overtook Ryan Bensley and secured third place.
This meant he started the second race third on the grid and a fine start saw him move up one place.
He suffered a setback when he slipped onto the grass and had to settle for third again.
Ashby responded well in race three and overtook race leader Craig Currie on the first turn and held on for 14 laps to secure his first ever win in a car.
Anyone interested in sponsoring Ashby can call his father on 07887 543695.
