WYRE Forest Swimming Club’s Scott Allin will be contesting four events at the National Group and Open Championships in August.

The 16-year-old, gained his fourth national qualifying time last week in the 200 metre individual medley while competing in the Sheffield Open Meeting.

That means the Kings Charles School pupil will be going for glory in the 100m and 200m backstroke and 200m and 400m individual medley.

He follows in the footsteps of Great Britain regular Amy Smith, who competed in three events at the nationals before stepping up to a higher level several years ago.

Allin will be hoping to improve on the semi-final place he achieved last year.

Wyre Forest coach John Howles said: “I am delighted for Scott because this is just reward for all the early mornings and late nights of hard work he’s done over the last 12 months. It provides an excellent springboard for even greater things to come.”

Allin, who is also currently sitting his AS levels, said: “Although studying and swimming take up most of my time, to achieve four national times this year has made it all worth it.

“I can’t wait to compete in this year’s nationals even though I will be one of the youngest in the 17 and over age group.”

Elswhere at the event, Josh Bradley finished fifth in the 100m breastroke to earn a place at the nationals, while Emma Bradley also booked a spot in Sheffield in the 50m freestyle.

n The club were pipped into second place at the final of the Ross League in Gloucester.
