THE women's veterans B crew from Bewdley Rowing Club savoured a successful weekend at the Henley Regatta.

They had suffered a setback when Serena Gammond sustained a twisted ankle, which meant the less experienced Sarah Bastida stepped into replace her.

But they bounced back when they defeated Eton Ladies by a length and three quarters in their first heat.

In the semi-final, Bewdley were then edged out by Nottingham, despite the leading for race for the first 750m.

At the Llandaff regatta , the intermediate two mixed eight of Jenny Merchant, Laura Ray, Charlotte Beswich, Vicky Wright, James Martyn-Smith, Paul Stanley, Ashley Pain, Andy Hewitt and cox Richard Ray cruised to an easy win over City of Bristol.

At Burton, there was a second regatta win for James Watson and John Saich in the junior 13 double, beating crews from Leicester and Burton Leander.

Bewdley’s junior 16 quad A crew narrowly edged out their clubmates in the B boat.

The women’s junior 13 quad suffered equipment failure as they were overhauled with 250m to go in their race.

Alex Smith sculled very well in the final of the junior 17 single sculls, but lost to his Lincoln opponent by a short length.
