MARTIAL ARTS: Members of Kidderminster's Winspers Kickboxing Gym passed their blackbelts with flying kick colours after a gruelling exam.

The students, ranging from 10 to 41 years of age, all took part in the exam which tested them on all the various punches, kicks, combinations, pad work, sparring, fitness and self-protection moves.

Saturday consisted of karate and kickboxing sparring, self protection moves and a fitness test.

This was followed by an four and a half hour exam the next day, under the supervision of the gym’s grading panel along with guest examiner, former world kickboxing champion, Mark Lester.

James Winsper said: “They all did the gym proud.

“It was a hot weekend and we tested them thoroughly on everything, but they all dug deep and tried as hard as they could.”

Coach Kevin Beard, 33, and junior instructor, Connor Porter, 15, also had reason to celebrate on Sunday afternoon after the exam – as they both passed their third dan blackbelt.
