KIDDERMINSTER Victoria CC closed the gap on Division Three leaders Wormelow with an eight wicket win over Hewell on Saturday.

With almost all the fixtures in the league rained off, Kidderminster took full advantage by cutting the gap between themselves and the leaders to just 15 points.

Victory was secured thanks largely to an impressive bowling display.

Steve Yarsley took 6-33 and Kevin Amos 34-3 as Hewell were bowled out for 121.

Yarsley then hit 39, while Andy Cavendish struck 79, as KVCC made 122-2 in 11 overs.

Elsewhere, only a handful of second team games survived as the rain washed out the rest of the Wyre Forest club’s fixtures.

Cookley’s second team beat Himbleton by nine wickets to re-ignite their promotion charge in the Division Three 2nd XI.

The visitors were dismissed for only 67 as Simon Anderson, Brian Davies and Luke Groves all took three wickets apiece. Phil Dixon (33) top-scored as Cookley easily reached their target of 68 for the loss of only one wicket.

On Sunday, Cookley were too strong for Amblecote and Wollaston in the Border League Division Three.

Martin Goode hit a stunning century to finish with 106 not out, while Nicky White (29) made the next top score as Cookley reached 196-9.

Amblecote made a bright start but it was soon obvious that the total was beyond them and three wickets each for Davies and Ricky Keenan, plus two for Rob Laidler, saw Amblecote make only 94 as Cookley won by 102 runs.

In the Division Two 2nd XI, Stourport defeated Wormelow by two wickets.

Christopher Mills took six wickets for 53 runs as Wormelow were dismissed for 141, while Bryan Colley top scored with 49 as Stourport made 142-8 in reply.
