THERE were a host of fast times and impressive performances at the Bewdley Bonanza tournament.

The competition had been revived by Bewdley Motorcycle Club and saw competitors racing in a host of different categories.

The 1,000cc sidecar category culminated with Mark Cossar edging out Rob Bradley on the last corner in the final.

Andrew Appleton, the British Masters and European Champion, was unbeaten in the 500cc heats and also won the final.

The main drama in that section came in the re-started final, when Jason Handley’s machine died on the line. The drama continued when Tim Nobes and Harland Cook were shoulder to shoulder when the former’s engine blew, allowing the Plymouth Speedway star to finish third.

A continental style Bahn Rekord attempt, featuring the six fastest solo riders, was won by by the in-form.

In the Pre-75s category, Bewdley's Gerald Short had a magnificent race to win against his arch rival John Priest.

Former British champions, Shaun Harvey and Danny Hogg came out on top in the 500cc sidecar class but the main interest was again for the minor places, which saw Simon Beard and his stand-in passenger, 1000cc rider Gareth Winterbourne, in a nail-biting race with Scott Dunn and Natasha Berkley.

The slow starting Beard forced his way past Dunn and Berkley to get second place.

The revitalised Martin Williams, racing on a 350cc was unbeaten all day.

.Wolverley's Lee Hazelwood stalked Steve Pantry for three and three quarter laps in the quads class, then dramatically changed his line on the final corner to move round the outside of his opponent and flashed across the line a quarter of a lap in front.
