THE weekend’s fixtures were laid waste as the big freeze continued to keep its icy grip on the district.

All outdoor sport fixtures were postponed before a ball was kicked or handled in anger.

Kidderminster Harriers’ long trip to Darlington in the Blue Square Bet Premier was called off last Thursday such was the heavy snow and freezing temperatures in the North East.

Stourport Swifts now face a lengthy mid-week trip to Bideford next year after their Southern League Division One West and South match was called off on Saturday, while on Tuesday their home league clash against Yate Town a victim of the sub-zero conditions.

In the West Midlands League Premier Division, Bewdley Town’s game against Dudley Sports was also off.

Town do not play this weekend as Bloxwich’s FA Vase trip to Heath Hayes has been rescheduled for Saturday.

They had hoped to take on Bromyard at home instead in a rearranged match, but the league’s bottom side are unable to play. Their next game is on Saturday, December 18 at Bromyard (3pm kick-off).

The Kidderminster and District Football League could also not defy the Arctic conditions as all games were off, despite optimism last week that some would go ahead.

Secretary Ernie Pyke said: “We had been hopeful midway through last week that we’d get some games on but in the end temperatures dropped and all the games were called off.

“We’re hopeful that we’ll get some games on this weekend but it all depends on the weather.”

In rugby, local rivalries were also put on ice in the Midlands Division Two West (South) as Kidderminster Carolians RFC’s Worcestershire derby at Droitwich was postponed.
