MEMBERS from Kidderminster’s Unique Fitness were in formidable form at the BPO British Powerlifting Championships in Bath.

A six-strong contingent from the gym emerged triumphant and set new national and international records.

Amidst all the strong performance, 65-year-old Rob Todd stood out in only his second competition and set new word records when he squatted 160 kilograms, bench pressed 120kg and deadlifted 170kg.

His 68-year-old training partner, Dave Clements, set two world and one European record, squatting 190kg, benching 140kg and deadlifting 210kg for three personal bests.

Tony Brown was in excellent form and bench pressed 255kg to set a new European record in his class, while Dave Mills came second and overcame a hamstring problem to lift 250kg in squat, 200kg in bench press and 260kg in deadlift.

Andy Knight lifted personal bests with 175kg squat,145kg bench and 200 deadlift to come first and Steve Knight came second in his class, lifting personal bests.

Harry Whale, 56, broke a bench world record in his class, which was 202.5 kg.
