A WYRE Forest athlete who is a member of Special Olympics Worcestershire is set to compete on the biggest stage yet, when he competes at the World Summer Games in Athens next month.

Jamie Dancyger, 25, will be competing in the 3,000 metres and 1,500m at the OAKO Olympic Stadium.

Dancyger trains each week at the Ryland Centre in Bromsgrove with the county branch of Special Olympics and is a member of Bromsgrove and Redditch Athletic Club.

Coach Lesley Andrews said: “Jamie is very excited. This will be his equivalent of being at the Olympics, there will be nothing bigger for him.

“He’s worked very hard and deserves his place at the Games.”

Dancyger, from Cooksey Green, is part of an eight strong West Midlands group competing at the World Games.

Special Olympics Worcestershire are paying for travel and accomodation but anyone interested in sponsoring him as he strives for success in Athens can contact Andrews on 07591 299892.

Uncllys Farm in Bewdley is raising funds to help Dancyger’s dream of competing in Greece by opening its doors to the public on Sunday, June 12.

There will be a barbecue with farm reared burgers and sausages and a farm Olympics. The doors open at 1.30pm, with racing from 2pm.
