KIDDERMINSTER Victoria CC skipper Jonathan Wright believes this is the best time to take on Birmingham and District League Premier Division leaders Barnt Green at Chester Road on Saturday.

KVCC are in their best form of the season as they prepare for their biggest game of the summer after they carved out a six-game unbeaten run.

That has lifted them from the bottom half of the table to fifth-place and KVCC still harbour distant dreams of a tilt at the title.

With that in mind, Wright believes there are two reasons why Saturday’s Worcestershire clash is so vital.

“If we beat Bartley Green we will halve their lead over us and that would put us in a good position for the second half of the season.

“It would also mean the title is wide open and make it a very exciting end to the season.

“Bartley Green are having a good season but they’re very much like us, they have a very strong batting line-up but their bowling is not quite as good, so I am expecting a high-scoring game.”

KVCC will be able to boast a full-strength squad going into Saturday’s showdown as they look to continue their recent good form.

The Chester Road outfit has undergone a transitional season as the likes of Matt Pardoe and Neil Pinner play more for Worcestershire but with the help of youngsters Richard Kimberlin and Ryan Derrick, KVCC has gradually moved up the table.

“We’ve always tried to integrate youth players alongside our more experienced guys,” added Wright.
