SAMURAI Judo Club celebrated their best ever haul of medals at the Heart Of England Judo Championships at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham after competing alongside 1,000 players.

The club returned home with nine medals including two golds, two silvers and five bronzes.

Kelly Edwards was the only player in the tournament to grab a double gold, waltzing through the senior ladies lightweights despite being just 15 years old and repeating the feat in the juniors.

Despite good performances from Dan Watson, Tom Wilkes, Craig Seldon, James Talbot and Grant Jones, it was Tom Walker was took the only boys medal with silver in the light heavyweights.

There was also a silver for Sally Moon after a semi-final success against twin sister Rachel, who settled for bronze.

In the girls lightweights there were bronzes for Emily Watson and Charis Hancocks, celebrating her first major medal, while Becky Holmes and Katherine Lloyd Jones clinched bronzes in the light-heavyweights and heavyweights respectively.

Andy Marston's comeback continued with a very creditable seventh place out of the 40 players in the senior men's division, while there were also good efforts from Amelia Hancocks, Sarah Biles and Carrie-Anne Beddow in the girls categories.

Kate Walker was absent from the event because she is competing at the Junior European Championships in Estonia.
