LIFE was a beach for Stourport's Ultimate Frisbee team when they finished second at an international tournament in Italy despite playing on sand for the first time.

The Psychedelic Rhinos were runners-up in the Burlan Beach Cup at Viareggio which was a five-a-sided event rather than the seven versus seven format they are used to.

They had a gruelling schedule of eight 45 minutes games in three days and captain John Watson said: "They contributed a fantastic amount of dedication and played to their limits."

The Rhinos overcame a narrow defeat in their first game to beat opponents from Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and the UK to qualify from the group stages.

Dodjie Link and Ed Blockley were influential as the Stourport side defeated an Austrian team in the last eight before they beat British rivals in the semi-final.

It earned them a final showdown with the Mohawks, the UK team which had inflicted their one and only defeat and despite taking a three-point lead they were beaten again by their bogey side, going down 6-4.

The Rhinos train at Memorial Park, in Stourport, from 10am to noon on Sundays and are preparing for beginners, winter leagues and National indoor qualifiers over the next few months.

Newcomers are welcome and they are also looking for a club sponsor to help continue their development. For more details please contact John Watson on 07877 260082.
