NEWLY-formed Wyre Forest Phoenix FC played their first games in the Worcestershire FA female football tournament at Mostyn Rangers this weekend.

The morning saw teams fielded in the under-12s and under-14s age groups.

The under-12s team had the most successful day and reached the final, only to lose 2-0 but still coming away with medals, while the under-14s saw A and B sides reach the last eight where they both lost 1-0.

In the afternoon, the under-16s fielded two teams.

Team A reached the quarter-finals only to be beaten 1-0 by Droitwich B, while Phoenix’s B team progressed further after a tense penalty shoot-out.

However, Droitwich were again the victors in the semi-finals and put them out with a score of 3-1.

The ladies, playing for the first time under the name, produced a terrific performance in the round robin stage to win three, draw two and lose just one game and come second on goal-difference but were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Redditch.

The teams, who had previously played for Ferndale Girls and Ladies FC, will be fielding seven sides in the local leagues from September.
