TABLE TENNIS: Members of Kidderminster and District League warmed up for the coming season with a ‘speed pong’ tournament at Cookley Village Hall.

Normally representatives of all league clubs meet prior to the start of the season to pick up their handbooks but this year a quick-fire tournament was also staged.

The inaugural Handbook Trophy tournament attracted 10 entries and the final saw Tim Giles, of Harriers F, pip Cookley coach Mark Bennett by a point.

The 2012-13 season starts on the week beginning Monday, September 10 with a round of handicap cup matches. League matches then begin the following week.

There are three divisions this year and interest at the top end will focus on whether Harriers B can retain the Division One title they won at a canter last time round.

Coaching commitments may mean they cannot call on the services of Worcestershire number one Adam Nutland as much as last year, which could open the door to the chasing pack.

Harriers A will again be snapping at the heels of the B team, while Dudley-based Bromley are expected to provide a stiff challenge.

Newly-promoted Broadheath Belters, meanwhile, who play at Sinton Green, near Worcester, will have Worcestershire under-18s champion Michael Siket as their number one.

Youngsters thinking of taking up the sport can attend coaching lessons at Cookley Village Hall on Thursdays from 5.30pm.
