WORCESTER Warriors’ flurry of re-signings continue with flanker Matti Williams becoming the latest player to put pen to paper on a new contract.

Williams arrived at Sixways as a hooker in the summer of 2016 but since reverting to his preferred position of opening flanker this season the 27-year-old has gained high praise from coaches.

The former Northampton Saints forward made his Warriors debut against Leicester Tigers in October 2016 and has gone on to make 22 first-team appearances.

The news of Williams’ deal comes after Ted Hill, Ollie Lawrence, Matt Cox, Michael Heaney, Jamie Shillcock and Isaac Miller signed contracts.

“I have immensely enjoyed my time at Warriors so am over the moon to have signed a new contract with the club,” Williams said.

“I have been fortunate to work with some top-class coaches and players and feel I have progressed as a player over the last three seasons.”

Williams’ fine performances in the European Challenge Cup and the Premiership Cup have resulted in him securing a place in Warriors’ Premiership side in recent weeks.

Director of rugby Alan Solomons said: “Matti has put in some impressive performances this season and was deservedly rewarded with a start in the recent Premiership clash with Gloucester.

“It is really pleasing to see him extend his stay here at Sixways.”
