WORCESTER Warriors tighthead prop Richard Palframan has been rewarded for his consistent performances in the first half of the season with a contract extension.

Palframan, 26, joined Warriors from Greene King IPA Championship side London Scottish last summer having previously played Premiership rugby for London Irish.

Having suffered a number of frustrating injuries during his time with Irish, Palframan has maintained form and fitness this season.

He has now signed a one-year extension to his existing contract which expires at the end of the season.

“I was really happy to be given the opportunity to come here. I’m happy with the way I’m playing at the moment and with the game time I have been getting and hopefully I can carry that on,” Palframan said.

“I’ve played a little bit more than I expected and it’s nice to be pushing for a spot now. The competition is good, we have a great bunch of boys here and I’m really happy to be staying.

“The calibre of the boys who have re-signed is great and it’s great to keep those guys for a few more years to come.”

Palframan, the son of former South Africa international cricketer Steve, played his formative rugby at Rondebosch High School in Cape Town and for Natal Sharks Under 19s.

He came to England in 2012 and has impressed Warriors director of rugby Alan Solomons with the progress he has made this season.

“Richard has shown great tenacity in overcoming a series of injuries to reignite his career here at Sixways,” Solomons said.

“His scrummaging has come on leaps and bounds this year and he is making good progress with his general play.

“He is also a first-class bloke and a great team man. I am really pleased that he has decided to extend his stay with us and look forward to continuing working with him.”

Palframan is the 13th member of Warriors’ current squad to commit his future to the club in recent weeks.
