A FUNDRAISER has been launched after a charity box was stolen during a raid on a shop.

Bewdley Farm Shop was broken into in the early hours of Saturday morning (December 16).

A stained glass window on the front door was smashed during the raid, and a charity box collecting funds for Kidderminster's KEMP Hospice was stolen.

Following the incident, a kind-hearted man set up a GoFundMe page to help recoup the stolen charity money.

Billy Burchfield, the organiser of the fundraiser, said 100 per cent of the proceeds raised will go to the hospice at the request of the shop owner Tony Thompson.

In response to the fundraiser, the shop owner posted on Facebook: "I am so touched that someone has even thought about it, let alone put it into action.

"I have been in Bewdley now for 35 years and customers never fail to amaze me. Trade at the moment is more difficult than it has ever been and I’m not going to lie, this morning I did think ‘why am I bothering’ but the messages, comments and good wishes from you all has been overwhelming.

"Thank you also to my family and staff whose support is unwavering".

Mr Thompson shared CCTV footage of the moment his store was raided.

Tony Thompson, the owner of the Dog Lane shop, has said the break-in caused around £3,000 worth of damage.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We received a report of a burglary at the Bewdley Farm Shop on Dog Lane in Bewdley around 2.55am on Saturday 16 December.

"It was reported a charity tin was taken, with value of the money inside unknown.

"Enquiries are ongoing".
