MEMBERS of groups fighting to save Kidderminster Hospital from further downgrading or closure have met with NHS board members.

Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier and representatives from a number of groups around the district including PACT, parish councillors, groups such as Age UK and Hospitals League of Friends met on Thursday.

Mr Garnier said he called the meeting in order to build communication between the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and interest groups to “dispel myths and give clarity to the process”.

He said: “We will know for certain where we stand at the beginning of November [after the six models of care have been short listed and public consultation starts].

“It may well be our work will be done and Kidderminster will see more services than it has at the moment.

“In the meantime, however, we will continue to deliver the message that we will not accept any downscale in local services.

“I was very keen the people at the meeting were people who speak to others, that’s why they were all community leaders.

“ I want to make sure we as a community are fully aware of what is going on and that everyone who wants to comment knows how to.”

Members of the Kidderminster Hospital Alliance also attended the meeting.

“This new initiative is one I fully support,” added Mr Garnier. “It is important we have a rallying call from a group who are dedicated to articulate the views of residents.”
