THE Rose Theatre’s resident group, the Nonentities, are back next week with Tennessee Williams’ play, the Glass Menagerie.

After a successful collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company, a five star production of Breaking the Code, and a sell out production of Muddy Cows, the Nonentities are back with the play between May 9 and May 14.

It tells the story of a family during the American depression, as the now aged Amanda Wingfield longingly reflects on her glorious life in the south as a privileged and desired young woman.

Her son and daughter however, appear to have none of her charm or joie de vivre, and are continually reminded of their inadequacies.

Tom, Amanda’s son is a secret poet, and longs to leave behind his job in a shoe warehouse. His sister, Laura, is crippled and fragile, with only her tiny glass animals for company.

As the principal breadwinner, Tom has to stick at his demoralising job until a husband can be found for Laura. But will the gentleman caller live up to their expectations?

The Glass Menagerie was made famous by the 1950 film of the same, starring Kirk Douglas and Jane Wyman.

The play will be the Rose Theatre from Monday (May 9) until Saturday, May 14.
