THERE will be a giant visiting Stourport this month, at Bishops Wood Centre.

Folksy Theatre’s musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s wonderful book, “The Smartest Giant in Town” will be filled with puppetry, colourful characters and songs that will visitors clapping and singing along, when it comes to Bishops Wood Centre, in Crossway Green, on August 11 from 6.30pm.

George was very happy being the scruffiest giant in town. But one day, when he sees a shop stocking giant-size clothes, he decides it is time to update his image.

With smart clothes, George is a new man. However, as he journeys home, he meets various animals who desperately need his help. George’s kind heart and generosity take him on an adventure where he discovers that it is not how you look that is important but how you feel.

Julie Donaldson is the author of a host of popular children’s books including “The Gruffalo” and “Stick Man”. Lee Hardwicke of Folksy Theatre has written and directed this musical adaptation.

John Rhymer, secretary of the Friends of Bishops Wood, said: “Folksy Theatre have given us some wonderful outdoor performances of Shakespeare’s plays including “As You Like It” this summer.

“These have always been superbly entertaining with live music and lots of interaction with the audiences and their performance of “Wind in the Willows” last summer was absolutely loved by children and adults alike.

“Everyone is welcome to bring picnics, chairs and blankets and enjoy a magical summer evening in the beautiful grounds of Bishops Wood. The gates will open at 6pm.”
