A FUNK band based in Kidderminster is due to appear at Birmingham’s Mostly Jazz Festival in July.

Cantaloop, who have already shared a stage with the Fun Lovin’ Criminals and De La Soul will join a line up which boasts Booker T, Matthew Herbert Big Band and the Cinematic Orchestra.

The festival runs from Friday, July 1 until Sunday, July 3, at Moseley Park.

The six-piece band was formed 15 years ago and gigged up and down the country and across Europe.

Cantaloop comprises vocalist Dannie Sanderson, guitarist Justin Metti and drummer James Randle, with Paul Wetton on bass, Simon Holland on trumpet and Nick Rundle on saxophone.

Justin described their sound as funk with hip hop and soul elements and rock sensibilities.

He said: “We have played venues from Glastonbury to a small pub in Malvern. We have done a lot of festivals over the years and they are a great way to enjoy music. It’s a bit of a busman’s holiday for us as we get to see other bands.

“It’s nice that it’s in Birmingham because it’s becoming a bit cooler and there’s a lot more going on.”

Cantaloop released their latest single Chocolate last week and are due to play at Arleyfest on Saturday, June 11. For more information on the band and to listen to their music visit cantaloop.net and for information about The Mostly Jazz Festival visit mostlyjazz.co.uk
