A KIDDERMINSTER jazz club are offering free admission to first time visitors in an aim to raise enthusiasm and entice new members to the club.
Aggborough Jazz, located in the Aggborough Suite of Kidderminster Harrier’s football ground, is hosting Chris Pearce’s Frenchman Street Jazz Band on Monday, July 28, with doors opening at 7pm.
Many well known jazz artists have performed at the venue, but with attendances slipping management are trying to get more people through the doors by offering free entry for first time visitors for the second month running.
Last month the club offered first time visitors the chance to see Carl Sinclair’s Boogie Band but this month Chris Pearce and his jazz band will take to the stage.
The band was initially formed in 2002, playing gigs at clubs and festivals in the South West of England over the next few years with various personnel.
They take their name from the famous Snug Harbour Jazz Club, in Frenchman Street, New Orleans, after Chris took a trip there with his brother in law, David Birt.
After playing in various other bands during the past decade Chris brought the group back together in the last few years using members of the Antique Six Jazz Band, a group that ceased playing in 2011.
Chris has been part of bands including Richard Leach’s 7 Stars of Jazz and Blue Note Jazzband, where he had the opportunity to play with many famous musicians including Acker Bilk, Humphrey Lyttelton, Bud Freeman and Wild Bill Davison.
