COLLEGE musicians will be performing a new piece as part of this year's Kidderminster Arts Festival (KAF).

The piece, entitled Tomb, has been composed by Kidderminster College tutor Andy Edwards and will be performed by students at the college on Tuesday, August 19, from 6pm until 7.30pm.

Andy said: "This piece has been specially composed to be part of the many nationwide commemorations marking 100 years since the declaration of the First World War and I hope it will prove fitting for the special occasion.

"It will turn the whole College into one big ambient space filled with sounds that represent the feelings and emotions that may have been in a young soldier's mind sat in a trench 100 years ago.

"Our HND students will be performing the piece so please come down and experience it because in experiencing art like this we not only remember those lives that were lost one hundred years ago but also we improve the quality of our own lives.

"This, in the end, is the greatest tribute we can give for those who sacrificed their future for ours."

Andy, who has played drums with rock legend Robert Plant and toured and recorded with the cult progressive bands IQ and Frost, is also a respected drum clinician who has performed with Mike Portnoy, Terry Bozzio, Thomas Lang and Marco Minneman.

He has also created the sound for another KAF event, the Chapel of Victories, which is being held from Friday, August 9, until Saturday, August 23.

The Chapel of Victories will be held in the Town Hall Corn Exchange where the soundscape will give people attending a chance to reflect on victories, triumphs and challenges.

It also includes an art installation made from found objects and inspired by local stories and has been created by artist duo Picapica.
