AN ACCLAIMED ‘Joplin-esque’ blues singer will be rocking out a Bewdley venue later this month.

The final gig of 2017 as part of Music in the Hall’s regular events will see Sari Schorr and The Engine Room band appear at Bewdley’s St George’s Hall on Friday, November 10.

Her debut album, ‘A Force of Nature’, has been released to rave reviews with Maximum Volume Music giving it a 10 out of 10 rating and Blues Rock Review describing it as “a hailstorm of an album sure to go down in blues history’.

The Engine Room consists of former Robert Plant guitarist Innes Sibun, Kevin O’Rourke, Kevin Jefferies and Anders Olinder.

A spokesman for Music in the Hall said: “It’s an easy thing to call a big-voiced female blues-rock singer ‘Joplin-esque’, but in this case the comparison is entirely apt.

“Not in any imitative way, but in the ability the two share to build fluidly from a whisper to a scream while radiating an emotional intensity that grasps an audience by the throat.

“Nor does ‘blues’ or even ‘blues rock’ quite capture the sound, with flavourings of traditional folk, world and progressive elements that make it an exotic fusion all its own.”

Sari said: "I set out to write achingly honest songs about the beauty and tragedy of the human experience.

“I hope my music can be a galvanizing force to inspire, repair and unite people. I try not to allow any constraints on my writing or performance of the songs.”

Doors open at 7.30pm, with £12 tickets available online at www.musicinthehall.co.uk, www.thehall-bewdley.org.uk or from St Georges Hall Cafe.
