A RISING Bewdley Folk singer is set to impress the crowd at an EP launch hometown show.
Son of John, the moniker of 26-year-old singer songwriter Jacob Johnson, will be performing at St. George’s Hall on April 2 Easter Monday. The music is inspired by the delta blues, traditional folk ballads, and classic songsmiths such as Nick Drake and John Martyn.
The new E.P ‘Live at Fieldgate Studio’ saw the songwriter collaborate with Double Bassist & one half of folk hip-hop duo Nizlopi, John Parker, who has previously played with the likes of Ed Sheeran and Newton Faulkner.
Son of John have previously played in other venues across the West Midlands such as The Robin 2, The Kitchen Garden, Katie Fitzgerald & The Globe at Hay. The pair will also be performing at Marrs Bar in Worcester on April 15.
Jacob said, “we try our best to compose a set that melds a variety of roots music, from the frantic Travis picking style country blues tracks to the softer, melancholy folk ballads.
“There is something about being a part of folk music that is very rewarding, having a wealth of tunes/songs to go back to and either adapting them to your own style or just simply taking some inspiration from them. Some see roots music as dated and out of touch - but as soon as you delve in you realise they were writing and singing about a lot of the same subject matter that we do.”
Tickets for the gig can be purchased from the venue website, thehall-bewdley.org.uk, or from the café inside for £8.
Tickets are also available on the door at £10.
