GANGSTERS and showgirls will be making their way to Kidderminster for the Carpet Trades Musical Theatre Company (CTMTC) production of Guys and Dolls.

The hit Broadway show will be performed at the Rose Theatre from Thursday, October 17 to Saturday, October 26.

The show is based on the short stories of Damon Runyon about New York low-life in the 1940s.

It was first transformed into a book by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerlin before music and lyrics were written by Frank Loesser.

Loesser’s score includes classics such as Adelaide’s Lament, I’ve Never Been in Love Before, Marry the Man, Luck Be a Lady, Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat and the title song.

There is plenty of action, humour and some energetic dancing supplied by the Hot Box Girls.

Premiered on Broadway in 1950, Guys and Dolls first reached London in 1953. It was made into a 1953 Hollywood film starring Marlon Brandon, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra.

It has numerous stage revivals, the most recent starring Ewan McGregor as Sky Masterson.

The story centres around a group of small-time gamblers and their long-suffering girlfriends.

Nathan Detroit, under nuptial pressure from his girlfriend Miss Adelaide, needs $1,000 to enter a game and, to raise the cash, bets his friend and professional gambler Sky Masterson that he can't woo the prim neighbourhood missionary doll, Sarah Brown.

CTMTC’s starring roles include Doug Forrestor as Sky Masterson, Sarah Richards as Sarah Brown, Dave Clarke as Nathan Detroit and Wendy Richards as Miss Adelaide.
