A TOURING production of children’s adventure story Emil and the Detectives will be visiting Rock Village Hall.

The play, based on the 1929 novel by Erich Kästner, is being presented by Red Earth Theatre in association with mac Birmingham on Saturday.

It follows the story of Young Emil, who, travelling alone on a slow train to Berlin, falls asleep and is robbed of all his money.

The chief suspect is the man in the bowler hat and Emil has to use his quick wit, cool head and some clever detection work to catch the dirty rotten thief.

The show is suitable for everyone aged eight and above, including deaf and hard of hearing audiences.

A spokeswoman for Red Earth Theatre said: “The show has done really well with family audiences and has shown great appeal for older audiences too.

“It really is a cross-generational show, so that all the family can enjoy the same, as well as different elements of the performance, together.”

Emil and the Detectives was Kästner's first major success and the only novel of his pre-1945 works to escape Nazi censorship.

The Rock Village Hall show has been put on by not-for-profit arts organisation Shindig, set up by Worcestershire local authorities. Shindig is managed by Live and Local and brings leading theatre companies, dance groups and musicians from the UK and abroad to the towns and villages of Worcestershire.
